Brazil represented in International Climate Change Adaptation Conference
The adaptation of populations from arid and semiarid regions to the climatic changes worldwide has been the focus of researches and scientific discussions. An example is the “International Climate Change Adaptation Conference” that will take place between June 30th and July 1st in Queensland, Australia.
Great scientists and decisions managers from countries of all continents are been invited, including from Brazil, that will be represented by a Director Committee, constituted by Mr. Carlos Nobre, from National Institute for Space Research (INPE/MCT), and Mr. Antonio Rocha Magalhães, ICID’s 2010 Director.
In that opportunity, Mr. Magalhães will show the Brazilian public politics of adaptation to the Northeast drylands and how this experience may give subsidies for actual scenery of climate changes.
He reclaims that the Queensland’s Conference already received proposal of 850 subjects, however, only a few of them are from Latin America.
“We hope that other institutions, especially from Brazil, intent to submit their proposals, because this theme interests to everybody and needs to be globally discussed” – he said.
According to Mr. Magalhães, some international personalities are already confirmed in ICID, on August 2010, in Brazil, as the Australia’s Conference director, Jean Palutikof. She will present a synthesis of the main suggestions of the event for adaptation to climatic changes.
“Actually, all this work intends to contribute to the adaptation of the actual scenary, in particular for the world’s arid and semiarid regions” – Magalhães said.
